Dixie Cup Speakers

The Foam Rangers are proud to announce the speakers for Dixie Cup XXVIII. Brad Kraus, Randy Mosher, and Jamil Zainasheff. Randy will also be leading this year’s Fred Tasting on Friday night.

Brad Kraus

Brad Kraus is a professional brewer of over 20 years experience with 8 years prior experience as an award winning amateur brewer. He was the brewmaster at Santa Fe Brewing Company, Rio Bravo Restaurant and Brewery, and Wolf Canyon Brewing Company, all in New Mexico. During his tenure at those breweries, he won six Great American Beer Festival medals, including two gold, and numerous other medals and awards in other competitions.

Brad is a brewery consultant, having worked on projects in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Peru. He is also the acting brewmaster for Isotopes Brewing Company and Abbey Beverage Company, the only monastic brewery in the U.S., which produces Monks’ Ale™ and Monks’ Wit™.

A Master Beer Judge as ranked by the Beer Judge Certification Program, he served with a select field of international judges for the Great American Beer Festival Professional Panel Blind Tasting, 1992–1999, 2001–2003, 2005–2011 and the World Beer Cup, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2010.

Brad is a member of Slow Food Santa Fe and enjoys using local beer and locally grown ingredients in his cooking and in planning beer dinners. He was accepted as a delegate to Slow Food Terra Madre 2006 and 2008 in Turin, Italy.

Randy Mosher

Randy Mosher has been writing about beer and brewing since 1989, and is the author of three beer and brewing books: The Brewers Companion(amazon|powells|books|b&n|abe) (1991), Radical Brewing(amazon|powells|books|b&n|abe) (2004) and Tasting Beer(amazon|powells|books|b&n|abe) (2009), which covers the sensory and stylistic aspects of beer. A new book entitled The Handy Book of Homebrewing is scheduled for publication in fall 2012.

Randy is a member of the faculty of the Siebel Institute, America’s oldest brewing school. He has written for nearly all of the beer-related magazines, and speaks to beer enthusiasts and brewing audiences around the world, and has served as chairman of the American Homebrewers Association Governing Committee.

Randy is also a graphic designer specializing in the branding and packaging business for American and international craft breweries, and is a partner and creative director for 5 Rabbit Brewing, the USA’s first Latin-themed brewery, all of which gives him a unique insider’s view of the industry.

Jamil Zainasheff

Jamil Zainasheff is a homebrewer turned professional brewer, author, beer judge, and all around nice guy. He was the 2004 and 2007 Ninkasi award winner at the National Homebrew Competition (NHC), and is probably the only Ninkasi winner to serve his beer at Pro night during a future NHC Conference.

Jamil has co-authored two homebrewing books, Brewing Classic Styles: 80 Winning Recipes Anyone Can Brew(amazon|powells|books|b&n|abe), with John Palmer, and Yeast: A Practical Guide to Beer Fermentation(amazon|powells|books|b&n|abe) with Chris White. He has hosted multiple podcasts on The Brewing Network including The Jamil Show and Brew Strong. He is the brains behind the mrmalty.com website and the pitching rate calculator we have all come to rely upon.

Jamil is currently the Assistant Director for Information Technology for the Beer Judge Certification Program, a member of the American Homebrewers Association Governing Committee, a BJCP National Judge, and a member of the Quality Ale and Fermentation Fraternity (QUAFF), Diablo Order of Zymiracle Enthusiasts (DOZE), and the Washoe Zephyr Zymurgists (WZZ).

In 2010, Jamil began work on Heretic Brewing, which opened in 2011 in Pittsburg, California (near Oakland).
