The Last Beer on Earth

2012

When the world is running down, you make the best of what’s still around, right? This beer will be nothing if not durable, suitable for the end of the world as we know it. To prove it, you’re going to have to let us have it a year early.

The beer will be “shed aged” as many a Dixie Cup leftover has been over the years. That means an occasionally chilly night, but more importantly a long, hot, brutal summer in a cardboard box before the return of fall’s more pleasant temperatures. Think your homebrew can endure? More importantly, do you think it will be drinkable?

The beer will be judged at room temperature and rewarded for:

  1. Survival – Anything that doesn’t turn into a “bottle bomb” gets points.
  2. Drinkability – Who wants their last memory of beer to be a bad one?
  3. Strength – It’s the end of the world, who wants to be sober for that?
  4. Adherence to style, if given – If we can still tell it’s an American Barleywine after a summer at 100+°F, you deserve credit for it!

Entries (2 bottles only) will be due at the 2011 Dixie Cup, where they will be ceremoniously placed in the boxes that will endure a year of neglect only to greet those willing to face Beermageddon, the 2012 Dixie Cup! You may bring your beers up to the end of the 2011 Dixie Cup Awards Ceremony, when the category will be announced to be closed, as will be the boxes, which will be sealed and marked with biohazard warnings.

Note: This category will not count towards personal or club points and will not be considered for Best-of-Show.
